Lovejoy Surgicenter is proud of the role it plays in caring for women. For more than 35 years we have given women reproductive choice when no one else could - or would.

Lovejoy's facility and staff can accommodate the needs of individuals. Women with unusual situations or special health concerns are able to benefit from the care of a hospital, without the high fees.  All of the other abortion providers refer their higher-risk patients to Lovejoy Surgicenter with the knowledge that our doctors and staff can give these patients better care.

Lovejoy Surgicenter is Oregon's first licensed free-standing ambulatory surgical facility. Any surgery that can be performed on an outpatient basis can be performed at Lovejoy.  Our doctors and staff have chosen to specialize in reproductive healthcare and of course, we also provide family planning services such as abortions, tubal ligations, vasectomies and IUD insertions.

Our goal is to provide the highest quality of abortion care, in a friendly, and professional environment by meeting the individual needs of each patient. Referrals to private physicians in the area are also available to assist you in your on-going care.

Our History

In 1971, several area doctors saw the need for a private facility that would provide abortions for women. Prior to that time, abortion procedures in Portland and throughout Oregon were performed at a teaching hospital. There were no guarantees of privacy, little or no respect for patients, and only after meeting with a social worker and being labeled "unfit" to parent was an abortion allowed. This is how Lovejoy was started. And it was the right thing to do.

We are very proud that Lovejoy is a leader in women's health care, and the innovation we've shown in reproductive care and other women's health care needs has taught a generation of women to expect excellent treatment, informed consent, and freedom of choice.
